So I arrived home yesterday, after driving through ridiculous amounts of rain that kept me at work for an extra 2 hours after I was going to leave, to no dinner. My mom says “I’m sorry, but are you able to go run out and grab yourself something for dinner, I gave your dinner away” She proceeded to tell me that a young man, part of a program where young men and woman work hard to get on the right path, after being in trouble, drug use, etc…, had rang our doorbell, while walking around the neighborhood doing door to door trying to sell alarm systems. It was only seconds after she opened the door, that the torrential downpour I spoke of earlier started coming down on him, leaving him stranded. She proceeded to ask the young man to come in, and offered him dinner, that her and my aunt, had just sat down to have. She tells me that the young man was SO appreciative and thankful for this, as no one ever brings him in their home, especially during rain fall, and any other day, he’d be stuck outside, while he waited to be picked up.
My mother, knew exactly what my feelings would be about someone else not having to eat, and gave him my share, comfortably knowing that I would not be upset. I couldn’t be anymore proud of my mother, for doing such an incredible thing for this young man, and for not second guessing what I would think of it all, because if there’s one thing I strongly believe in this life, is that no one shouldn’t have anything to eat, as unfortunately as it is, that so many don’t.
I instantly got this chill all over my body, and a bit of teary eyed feeling, knowing she had changed that young mans evening with such a non-selfish act. I love you mom, you’re the reason I am everything that I am today, you’ve been my Mother AND my Father all my life, and I owe everything to you.
